Dell Inspiron N5110 Broken Power Port

Like many Dell N5110 laptops, this one came in with a physically broken power plug.  As you can see in the pictures the circular barrel that was once there is missing.  Some users have reported the notebook can still work in this state if you hold the tip of the power cord in just the right angle to get it to work.  This is not recommended and could cause further damage. Sometimes you will get an error “plugged in, not charging”.

This can be fixed by Pomeroy Computing for our flat $69 parts and labor rate repair.  This includes the tear down and reassembly and a new dc plug soldered on.  The N5110 uses a 9 pin port that is soldered to a separate I/O board or  CRT board (Part # 10808-1, 48.4IF05.001, DQ15DN15).  This separate board plugs directly into the motherboard.  This is a nice design because if the dc jack gets so damaged the I/O board is damaged you won’t need to replace the main board.
